Unmasking the Power of Makeup

Many think makeup is a way to hide one’s imperfections, but the world of makeup is a fascinating realm that goes beyond just that!

Makeup is a form of art and it’s like a palette allowing you to express your thoughts and emotions. It’s not about hiding imperfections, but a tool for empowerment, allowing anyone to express themselves freely.

There are a lot of misconceptions and debates between people who wear makeup and people who don’t. Most people who don’t wear makeup have this idea that people who wear makeup, wear it because they are insecure of the way they look. However, people don’t realize that it’s not wrong, if it makes them happy and comfortable, nobody should criticize them.

An interview was held with a senior named Margot Szatmary saying, “People all around the world use makeup just to make it through their day. It’s almost like wearing a mask of your best self.” Moreover, “Expressing yourself and using self care [through makeup] are extremely beneficial towards confidence and overall quality of life.” Szatmary emphasizes the importance of self expression through makeup implying that the act of putting makeup positively contributes to an individual’s confidence. Moreover, a recent study conducted by Harvard University where they noticed that female students who wore makeup “received higher grades compared to those who did not.” Fascinating right?

It’s remarkable how women and other genders spend thousands of dollars on makeup, why? Well according to an NIH article, New York women spend $300,000 on makeup and a big reason behind this is that looking good affects how one feels about themselves. Whether it's a bold red lipstick or the dramatic flair of thick black eyeliner, the investment in makeup is linked to the powerful boost in self-confidence that lead to these choices.

Therefore, remember that the little things you put on your face, like a stroke of eyeline can transform your mood, a touch of red lipstick is a sign of empowerment. The next time you wear makeup or reach for that mascara, know that you’re not just wearing makeup but helping you bring your inner confidence and enhancing your diverse personality.
